Ecuador and Peru: vulnerability of the population

Title: Binational project to reduce the vulnerability of the population and their livelihoods, in facing the threats of drought and floods in border areas of Ecuador and Peru.

Brief description: The project objective is to reduce the vulnerability of the Catamayo-Chira trans-boundary watershed through the strengthening of public institutions in the area of risk management and the preparation of the border civilian population.

Expected results: 

  • Strengthen the binational institutional framework through the implementation of technical-legal tools that allow local governments to improveque governance and public policy to reduce the risk from drought and flood disasters.
  •  Strengthen vulnerable border communities and prepare them to reduce risks in natural events such as droughts, floods and forest fires.
  • Promote the operation of the Early Warning System for floods and provide it with information technology for mass use, in three sites with the greatest incidence of floods and droughts in the Catamayo-Chira Trans-boundary Watershed.
